UNFPA in I-PRSP / PRSP
UNFPA in PRSP
UNFPA was very actively involved with the GOB in the preparation of PRSP from the conceptual design to operational details. This is evidenced by the fact that "Access to Reproductive Health Services for all" was included among the 10 targets of PRSP. Inclusion of indicators (MMR, skilled delivery at birth, proportion of institutional delivery, TFR, Contraceptive prevalence rate and Population growth rate) for monitoring progress over time was also facilitated by UNFPA.
UNFPA also led the initiative to arrive at an agreed figure of MMR for the base line year 1990 in the PRSP. UNFPA took the initiative to form a Target Working Group (TWG) led by Secretary MOHFW to determine the estimated figure of MMR for 1990. The TWG recommended the higher end of NIPORT figure (574) to be considered as the MMR for 1990 which was later confirmed by Health Economics Unit of MOHFW. In response to UNFPA's correspondence to General Economic Division of Planning Commission, the revised figure (574) has been reflected in the final version of PRSP .
