The purposes of the advocacy sub-programme include: to strengthen gender equity and equality through male participation, to reduce gender-based violence, to increase the role of women in decision-making, to further strengthen positive behaviour changes especially among the youth and adult men regarding sexual and reproductive health issues. The outputs envisaged to achieve these purposes are: a) strengthened support of the parliamentarians, religious leaders, elected and non-elected opinion leaders as well as the media representatives on reproductive rights, reproductive health, and gender equality issues, b) strengthened enabling environment for better and increased understanding of gender issues, contraceptive choices, as well as reproductive health and rights among the youth, men and hard-core group, c) enhanced client friendly attitude of the service providers.

Under this sub-programme, thirteen projects are being implemented by different ministries including Ministry of Health and Family Welfare; Ministry of Religious Affairs; Ministry of Home Affairs; Ministry of Labour and Employment; Ministry of Women and Children Affairs; Ministry of Youth and Sports; Ministry of Education; Ministry of Primary and Mass Education; Ministry of Information; Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives; Ministry of Establishment and Parliamentary Secretariat. The lone private sector organization with which UNFPA works under this sub-programme is BGMEA.
